  • A third operation to pull civilians from Mariupol is due today, the UN says, as more fighting was reported for control of a steelworks where the last Ukrainian defenders are holding out. Last night, as air raid sirens blared over many regions of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian shelling was ongoing but attempts would be made to evacuate people. "Just imagine this hell. And there are children! More than two months of constant shelling, bombing, constant death nearby," he said.

  • The US provided intelligence that helped Ukraine sink the Russian warship Moskva, multiple US media outlets report. Officials said Ukraine had asked the US about a ship in the Black Sea. The US identified it as the Moskva and helped confirm its location. Ukraine then targeted the ship - BBC

  • The mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk in western Ukraine urged residents on Thursday to avoid public gatherings this weekend, or leave the city if they can, for fear of Russian missile strikes. His announcement followed warnings by Ukrainian officials that Russia might step up its offensive in Ukraine before May 9, when Moscow commemorates the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two - Reuters

  • UN: 6,731 civilian casualties in Ukraine due to Russia’s war. Michelle Bachelet, a top UN human rights official, said on May 5 that her office is also documenting the forced disappearances of local Ukrainian authorities, journalists, and civil society activists. Bachelet’s office has investigated 180 cases of disappearances so far, with five of the individuals found dead - The Kyiv Independent

  • Polish PM: International donors conference raises $6.5 billion for Ukraine. The conference in Warsaw, aimed at helping Ukraine deal with the economic and humanitarian fallout of Russia’s war, was hosted by Poland and Sweden, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said.
