  • Russian shelling has caused a huge fire at a chemical plant in Severodonetsk as "non-stop" fighting rages in the city, the region's governor says. Serhiy Haidai told Ukrainian TV the fire at the Azot plant started after a leak of tens of tonnes of oil from damaged radiators. As many as 800 civilians are hiding in underground bomb shelters at the chemical plant, Ukrainian officials estimate - BBC

  • A rocket attack on the western Ukrainian city of Chortkiv has partly destroyed a military facility and injured 22 people, the governor of the Ternopil region has said.

    Volodymyr Trush said four missiles had hit the city last night, damaging four apartment buildings. Context: Chortkiv is where my mother’s family comes from. The attack deep into the heart of this western Ukrainian region goes to show once again that a) no region of Ukraine can be considered safe; and b) the West needs to urgently assist Ukraine to achieve the ability to close its skies to Russian missiles.

  • US President Joe Biden said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi dismissed warnings that Russia would invade his country in February. "I know a lot of people thought I was maybe exaggerating, but I knew, and we had data to sustain, he was going in off the border. There was no doubt.
